YOUTH LEGACY PROJECT

With the obligation to do a senior legacy project to leave an impact on the youth of Hawaii, I decided to do my project dealing with crystal meth. I was inspired to do my project on Crystal Meth because of past experiences I have gone through. Someone so dear and close to me that I love very much got into this drug and could not find a way out. The only way out for him was either getting caught and going to prison or ultimately death. Thankfully prison got him before death did. As a kid the emotions and feelings throughout that experience has motivated me to prevent Crystal Meth in youth so they may not have to go through the same problem that I had to go through. I am doing this for the kids so they may live a wonderful and clean life.  Sometimes you might not know that someone so close to you might be doing Crystal Meth, which was the way my situation went. I did not realize that this person was using Crystal Meth, until the day this person got caught. It devastated me so much that it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

The Healing Our Island website is a Hawaii County resource to promote a drug free, healthy community. It's mission is to have everyone working together to heal our island from the harmful effects of crystal methamphetamine or 'ice.' Hawaii has been impacted by the harmful effects of substance abuse upon families, businesses, and communities. In order to improve Hawaii's quality of life, this site promotes community based programs and grassroots efforts toward education, prevention, treatment and recovery for youth and at-risk adults. The goal is to ensure that Hawaii Island is a healthy and safe place for our children and our families. This information exchange is being provided as a public service.

The County of Hawaii strives to keep this material accurate and up-to-date. The viewer is cautioned to check with the appropriate County department or agency responsible for maintaining the information to validate its accuracy.
