Lokahi Treatment Centers (LTC), formerly known as Waikoloa Community-Based Substance Abuse Rehabilitation and Recovery Program, is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as the ONLY Integrated Mental Health and Substance Abuse Program on the Big Island of Hawaii. Due to this accreditation, LTC is able to provide treatment for dually diagnosed clients.

The professional staff at LTC includes a medical staff member, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists and a variety of professional counselors. Staff members, in a variety of departments, are certified chemical dependency counselors.

MISSION

The mission of the Lokahi Treatment Centers (LTC) is to provide quality mental health and substance abuse treatment services that are culturally appropriate to Big Island adults, adolescents and children. Treatment services include individual and group sessions that reflect the treatment needs of the clients and modify services according to cultural, demographic, and geographic differences. This mission is accomplished through the use of an integrated approach to treatment utilizing both cognitive-behavioral and existential psychotherapy. This allows the individual to formulate a "why" for change, which leads to a "how" or method to not only recognize the need for behavioral change, but to experience emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth.

LTC has been involved with community-based services since its inception and has brought together public and private groups that have historically worked toward improving conditions for the people of Hawaii County. LTC is built on the growing evidence that programs with a combination of strategies and collaborative efforts have a higher rate of success and better outcomes than single-strategy initiatives.

SUSTAINABLE RECOVERY

A critical component of sustainable recovery from drug addition is helping clients to find a new path in life, once they have stopped using drugs. At LTC, our goal is to provide our clients with a continuum of care to meet them right where they are and guide them through a world of new choices. We know that individualized interventions and meaningful group process are important elements in recovery. These are the cornerstones of each client's treatment plan at LTC. Our experience providing these services has taught us that individualized mental health counseling, vocational education and access to community resources are an equally important part of the picture.

LTC promotes individualized treatment plans that is client-driven and centered on the whole person. Clients can assertively address problems related to family; work; and to social, psychological, and emotional well-being. Follow-up supports from family, employer, teachers/mentors, and community can be readily established or reestablished with LTC's treatment experience. Clients are in a good position to confront challenges because, not only will they have learned new behavioral and cognitive response to cravings, and have had real-life opportunities to practice relapse prevention techniques, but they also have an established community-based support network, including family involvement and job training opportunities.

ABOUT US

Lokahi Treatment Centers (LTC), formerly known as Waikoloa Community-Based Substance Abuse Rehabilitation and Recovery Program, was originally established by the Waikoloa community in 2001 to address the substance abuse and domestic violence problems in their area. The organization received its federal tax exemption on May 15, 2001. Today, LTC provides services island-wide and has offices in Kona, Waikoloa, Kohala, Waimea, Honokaa, Hilo, and Natalie. LTC is also fortunate to have the use of office space from partnering agencies in areas where LTC's offices are not located.

This program is unique among other island programs in that it is community-based and "grass-roots" focused. The community-based mission is to maximize the power of the people to advocate for treatment and recovery in order to prevent the harmful effects of substance abuse upon families, businesses, and the community.
