FAITH AGAINST DRUGS
A Supportive Living Program for Recovery from Chemical Addiction

WHO ARE WE?

FAD provides housing with a structured, family-like atmosphere free of alcohol and illegal drugs. Residents can progress and transition into the community as supportive contributing members.

FAD cares about the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strengthening of its residents. We help residents find employment and network with other social service agencies. We provide opportunities for spiritual enrichment, manage a food and nutrition program and coordinate sports activities - in addition to providing a safe, sheltered environment.

FAD provides leadership opportunities by on-the-job training in our residence. We coach our residents ot lead by example.

Support group meetings are held on a weekly basis and provide residents iwth an excellent opportunity to air suggestions and explore their differences.

OUR STRUCTURE

Established in 2002, Faith Against Drugs is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization governed by a working Board of Directors and supported by an Advisory Council consisting of local community leaders.
OUR MISSION

Faith Against Drugs provides safe housing to persons in need who desire to live free of alcohol and illegal drugs.

OUR VISION

We envision safe housing throughout the Big Island community where supportive family values are developed by a caring network of families, mentors, and other faith-based and community organizations.

Our residents are progressing and transitioning into the community as supportive, contributing members and are acting as mentors to others. They are responsible citizens living a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle.

Through referrals and networking our resources with other faith-based and community organizations, lasting solutions are reached for homelessness amongst those overcoming chemical dependency.

OUR VALUES

  • Strengthening of mind, body and spirit.
  • Tolerance and respect of our differences.
  • Proper direction for spiritual growth.
  • The God-given right to be recognized as free and responsible persons.
  • Progress in virtue and knowledge.
  • Doing to others as we would have them do to us.
  • Loving God and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
WHERE ARE WE?

Faith Against Drugs manages a 20 room facility in downtown Hilo. It is the former site of a rundown, drug-infested hotel and is now a beacon of hope. Through the collaboration and assistsance of the property owners; the Ancient Order of Foresters, we are able to offer a comfortable, relaxed environment for those who were once homeless and in chemical abuse situations.

We plan to provide additional residential sites and to increase our services to other communities island-wide.

WE BELIEVE IN MIRACLES!

It's a miracle when a mother gets her baby back after struggling with addiction and finds victory through the grace of God.

It's a miracle when a family reunites and begins life anew after all but a few people have given up hope.

It's a miracle when people who have lost their way, find help and can now live free from the bondage of drugs and alcohol.

Are we expecting miracles? You better believe we are! We ask you to join us as we move forward, witnessing miracles as we go.

We need you to help us make our community a safer place to live for ourselves, our families and our children.

The Healing Our Island website is a Hawaii County resource to promote a drug free, healthy community. It's mission is to have everyone working together to heal our island from the harmful effects of crystal methamphetamine or 'ice.' Hawaii has been impacted by the harmful effects of substance abuse upon families, businesses, and communities. In order to improve Hawaii's quality of life, this site promotes community based programs and grassroots efforts toward education, prevention, treatment and recovery for youth and at-risk adults. The goal is to ensure that Hawaii Island is a healthy and safe place for our children and our families. This information exchange is being provided as a public service.

The County of Hawaii strives to keep this material accurate and up-to-date. The viewer is cautioned to check with the appropriate County department or agency responsible for maintaining the information to validate its accuracy.
