With
the help of the student leadership planners (from
Kalanianaole, Paauilo, Laupahoehoe & Honokaa
Schools), Hawaii County Fire & Police Departments,
Queen Liliuokalani Children’s Center, Power
of Choice Hamakua, Laupahoehoe Train Museum & volunteers:
The Hamakua Drug Free Committee celebrated five years
of successful Drug Free Bashes and Celebrating Families.
The committee's goal is to:
1.
Encourage middle school students to lead drug-free
lives by providing motivational speakers at planned
events and model this behavior through student leaders,
advisors and supporters;
2.
Help students develop friendly relationships amongst
their peers from other middle schools along the
Hamakua Coast;
3.
Encourage and develop leadership skills in youth
by facilitating, planning, implementing and evaluating
youth-led grade-level drug-free activities with
assistance from adults partners to include a service
project within their school and community; and,
4.
Encourage parents and other family members to participate
in these activities and events when possible.
